Dr. Holtz specializes in microsurgical cataract surgery techniques. In 1975, he was one of the first physicians in New Jersey to perform intraocular lens implants, which is now a standard part of cataract surgery. He has performed more than 12,000 of these procedures.
Dr. Holtz is currently using special intraocular lenses that correct for astigmatism as well as others that correct for presbyopia (the age-related condition that causes us to need reading glasses) leaving patients independent or much less dependent on glasses for distance and near tasks. These procedures are also done in patients who do not have cataracts, but do have significant refractive errors, especially farsightedness. Dr. Holtz also performs Laser Cataract Surgery using the femtosecond laser.
